For 14-year-old Themba Nkosi from Mamelodi, rugby has always been more than just a game. It has been his escape, his discipline, and his dream. When he was selected to represent his district at the prestigious Cape Town U15 Rugby Tournament, it should have been the proudest moment of his young life. Instead, it became a source of heartbreak.

Themba's family simply could not afford the trip. The costs of flights, accommodation, meals, and a proper playing kit were far beyond their means. With no financial support and no sponsor in sight, it looked as though Themba would have to turn down the opportunity of a lifetime.

Bokgabane Steps In

When Bokgabane Sport NPC learned about Themba's situation, we knew we had to act. This is exactly why our organisation exists: to ensure that talent is never wasted because of circumstance. Within days, our team mobilised to cover every expense Themba needed to compete.

"No child should have to give up on their dreams because their family cannot afford a bus ticket or a pair of boots. When talent meets opportunity, extraordinary things happen."
— Ruan Vermaak, Executive Director

Bokgabane covered the full cost of Themba's journey to Cape Town, including:

A Performance to Remember

Free from worry and fully supported, Themba arrived in Cape Town ready to play. And play he did. Over the course of the tournament, Themba delivered an outstanding performance that captured the attention of coaches and selectors from across the country.

He scored three tries across the tournament matches, demonstrating explosive speed, intelligent positioning, and a level of determination that belied his age. His performances were so impressive that he was named Player of the Tournament — the highest individual honour at the competition.

A Future Taking Shape

The impact of Bokgabane's support did not end when Themba boarded his flight home. His performances at the Cape Town tournament attracted the attention of the Western Province Rugby Academy, one of South Africa's most prestigious rugby development programmes. Scouts have since been in contact with Themba and his coaches, and he is now being considered for inclusion in their junior development squad.

For Themba, this is just the beginning. For Bokgabane Sport, it is a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when we invest in our young people. One flight, one kit, one week of support — and a young man's entire future has changed direction.

"I never thought I would get to play in Cape Town. When Bokgabane told me they would help, I cried. I promised myself I would play my best. This is for my family and everyone who believed in me."
— Themba Nkosi, Age 14

Themba's story is not unique — there are hundreds of young athletes across South Africa with the same talent and the same barriers. Through the continued generosity of our donors and partners, Bokgabane Sport is committed to reaching as many of them as possible.
